Drums & Percussion
Joel Alpers divided his childhood between East Africa, where he was born, and Los Angeles, and started playing drums and percussion around the time he began to walk.
A graduate of UCLA, he has played and/or recorded with Herbie Hancock, the Royal Crown Revue, Steve Tyrell, Deanna Johnston, Larry Klein, the Jazz Jury, Luis Conte, Anthony Wilson, Jude Swift, Russ Kunkel, Jamie Findlay, Elliott Caine, Cathy Segal-Garcia, Sandro Albert, Mike Elizondo, and many, many others. His playing has graced numerous films, television shows, jingles, and theatrical productions.
Joel co-wrote and co-produced the Mosaic albums “Kindred Spirits” and “Expatriate Blues” and the Upper Structure album “6 By 5”, and his compositions have also been recorded by the Jeff Helmer Trio and Common Tongue.
Joel’s been with VOX LUMIERE since its inception, and in addition to giving him many magical moments on stage and in the studio, Vox also introduced him to his wonderful wife, Melissa Fahn, whose solo record he is currently writing and producing.
